Andrew S. Bosin is an experienced technology internet attorney practicing in the area of The #Internet of Things #(IoT) providing legal advice on wireless internet connected cloud devices and #Artificial #Intelligence, #Deep #Learning, #Machine #Learning, #Cloud #Computing, #Robotics and #Embedded #Sensors #Platforms, #Solutions and #Applications. What type of legal work does an attorney perform that represents clients in matters related to The Internet of Things (IoT)? It is a combination of legal work related to technology, software and what is known as Software-as-a-Service (SaaS). All three of these legal fields intertwine at some point or another in my travels as I assist clients with navigating the IoT landscape. This is because on a daily basis I am drafting agreements that contain language protecting intellectual property, privacy and data rights and amongst other things software code.
It is undeniable that The Internet of Things (IoT) is changing our lives. In the setting of IoT, everyday internet connected smart devices around us are collecting sizeable amounts of data that are being stored in cloud platforms and communicated to other devices and to other parties leaving them vulnerable to hacking or a cyber attack thus the need for clients to put in place effective preventive measures.
We are also seeing the confluence of IoT and SaaS in a new area called HESaaS: Hardware Enabled SaaS. Traditionally, we think of SaaS as one entity providing a cloud based service to another which is accessed through the internet. HESaaS adds a piece of hardware to this equation so the user can transmit data to the provider about certain data and metrics being achieved by the user of the SaaS Service. Increasingly, the government is mandating that certain industries collect data that is one of the reasons why we will likely see the area of HESaaS grow exponentially.
In the context of IoT, the impact on energy, education, technology, communication, business and healthcare will also continue to grow exponentially driven by both wearable devices which measure our health and home heating connected devices providing valuable data about the performance of our houses from an energy standpoint.
